AIADMK is understood to be keen to enter into an alliance with BJP, specifically for the Assembly elections in Karnataka.
Informed sources in the BJP told Deccan Herald here on Thursday that the matter was discussed when AIADMK supremo J Jayalalitha hosted Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi for lunch at her residence in Chennai recently.
Sources indicated that AIADMK was keen to contest in at least 10 seats in Karnataka. The party was looking at contesting seats in Bangalore city, rural districts Kolar and KGF, Mysore, Bhadravati and Shimoga, where it believes it has pockets of influence.
Modi and former minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, who met Jayalalitha a few days back, have not yet responded to reports.
The BJP cen tral leadership is likely to take a decision in this regard after talking to the state’s party leaders.
Meanwhile in Karnataka, BJP veteran B S Yediyurappa has already stated that the party would contest alone in the upcoming Assembly elections.
Speculations are premature: Jaya
Chennai, pti: Playing down her recent luncheon meeting with Narendra Modi, which fuelled speculations over an electoral tie-up, Jayalalitha said it was too premature to talk about an alliance. She had hosted a ‘45-course’ feast for Modi and BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad on January 14.
Describing the lunch as a “friendly meeting”, Prasad said a wide range of issues had been discussed, without elaborating further.
