BBMP’s assurance to complete the underpass on T Chowdiah Road within 72 hours had hundreds of people converge at the construction site. The Palike found it tough to avoid the rush.
For the public, the prospect of a major infrastructure getting ready at such a short span of time was too inviting to ignore. Most were ready to live with the inconvenience for a few days.
Sriraman, an employee of Imaje Software Development Centre on T Chowdiah Road, said, “We have been seeing the Malleswaram underpass work, which has been in progress for the last one and a half years. It is commendable if an underpass is completed within three days. Even if it is delayed by 10 more days, I appreciate the Palike for its speedy work.”
But he was unhappy over the unscheduled power cuts and water supply disruption.
Malini Ramesh, a technical writer, drew attention to the delay in shifting of utilities. But she was happy with the progress of work.
“I would have been happier had the Palike informed the public in advance about the disruption in providing basic amenities.”
Net services down
Internet services were disrupted, mostly VSNL connections, in some areas for a couple of hours following some technical snags.
Services were affected between 4 pm and 7 pm on MG Road and surrounding areas.
NO IMPEDIMENTS
Roads looked packed in Sadashivanagar traffic police limits, but vehicles plied in an order throughout the day on Thursday, thanks to the alternative routes identified by police.
Chaos and confusion had reigned on Wednesday as police had not enlightened the public on the underpass work at Cauvery theatre junction.
Police pressed into service 35 more policemen to ensure smooth traffic flow. Things worsened on Wednesday between 8 am and 11 am and 4 pm and 7 pm as many vehicle hit the roads, but the same did not repeat on Thursday. Moreover, police had put barricades on some roads and junctions to ensure smooth traffic flow, said Sadashivanagar traffic police station inspector T N Srinivasa Reddy.
