Seven policemen from the CCB were on Wednesday arrested by Lokayukta police for demanding and accepting bribe to ‘cover up’ an alleged prostitution racket in a service apartment.
The seven are: Sub-Inspector V Nagesh, Assistant Sub Inspector, H Narayana Murthy, Head Constable V Venkatesh and constables G Venkatesh, Appaji, Rangaswamy P C and Chandrappa of the CCB (Women and Narcotic Squad).
All of them were arrested and produced before the court. They were later released on bail.
Tension over attack
Tension situation prevailed for a while near Mahatma Gandhi statue on Thursday after Sri Rama Sene activists splashed kum-kum over Samatha Sainik Dal members.
The incident took place when Dal members were staging a protest to condemn alleged exploitation of Christians in Orissa.
Cubbon Park police rushed to the spot and arrested 22 Sene activists.
3 held for murder
Three persons were arrested in connection with the murder of retired assistant executive engineer of BESCOM, Raghavan. The three are: Chandra Kantha Sharma (48), his wife Mrs Sharma (41) and their son Manto C Sharma alias Tinku (21).
Sources said the three have confessed to the crime.
Antiques stolen
Antiques pieces, jewellery and other valuables worth lakhs were stolen from a handicrafts shop on Plan Street, in Commercial Street police station limits, on Wednesday. Miscreants entered the showroom through the rear door and made away with the valuables.
