A Kannada thesaurus titled 'Padanidhi' was launched here on Friday.

Kannada thesaurus launched

 Compiled and edited by Prashanth Madtha, Principal of St Joseph’s Evening College, Padanidhi has been published by the college’s Kannada Sangha. The 794-page dictionary contains synonyms, idioms and phrases for 886 concepts and alternate words for 16,000 words.

Former Chief Minister M Veerappa Moily released the book. Rashtrakavi Dr G S Shivarudrappa said it was unfortunate Kannada Sahitya Parishat had stalled the work of dictionary compilation for the last few years. St Joseph’s Educational Institutions vice-president Rev Dr Terens Farais and Madtha also spoke. Padanidhi is priced at Rs 700. Call 22211911, 22297274, 9886064560.

Plumbing contractors set to go on strike

The BWSSB Plumbing License Contractors’ Association plans to shortly go on a strike against the Board’s decision to supply water directly to consumers in BBMP’s 72 newly-added wards. The strike will be staged outside the BWSSB head office.

Association general secretary Subbanna told reporters, “The BWSSB notification in December 2007 to provide water connections directly to consumers bypassing licensed contractors. We will go on a strike within a fortnight.”

School gets auditorium

Schools should encourage children to take part in theatre activity and theatre worker, said creative director of Rangashankara, Arundhati Nag. She was speaking after inaugurating ‘Unnati’, an auditorium at Mahila Seva Samaja School on Krishnarajendra Road. The auditorium has a seating capacity of 420.

‘Key is good communication’

Air Marshal G S Chaudhry, Air Officer Commanding in Chief, Training Command on Friday  emphasised the importance of good communication between patients and doctors. He was speaking after inaugurating a workshop on communication skills in medicine at Command Hospital here on Friday.


Police chief gets notice

The High Court on Friday ordered issue of emergent notices to the Police Commissioner and the
Malleswaram police on a woman’s petition alleging police inaction on her complaint over her four-year-old son’s abduction and illegal detention by her husband.

The case has been adjourned to January 25.

Traffic diversions

In view of the christening of the Flyover near Town Hall after Swamy Balagangadharanath on his 64th birthday on Saturday afternoon at 2.30, the city police have made some traffic diversions from 1 pm to 3.30 pm.

The arrangements as follows:

* All types of vehicles moving from Town Hall towards Mysore Road should take the flyover and take a left turn near Briand Square, reach Royal Circle and from there move in different directions.

* Vehicles moving from Cottonpete main road towards Mysore Road must go straight towards Royal Circle passing Briand Square.

* Vehicles coming from Mysore toward Mysore Road and wanting to reach the inner parts of the city should take a left turn near Kimco Circle on Mysore Road, join West of Chord Road and then move in different directions.
