The latest store to hit the city is Forever New on 100 Feet Road, Indiranagar. Apparently the range is the hottest Australian fashion brand created for the young fashion conscious woman. The store holds everything from a whole range of trendy outfits to accessories including bags and jewellery, to complete your ensemble.
Flipping through the well laid out range what was interesting was the sizes ranged from an eight to a sixteen. That’s a relief especially since we Indian women tend to be fleshy around the hips and butt!
The colour palette was primarily black for the season and in particular tones of black, created with contrasting fabrics, and finishes. Interesting tonal patterns were achieved in jacquard, leather mixed with jersey, wet look finishes, lacquered finishes, besides decorative tweeds, formed the core of the collection. Rich tones of purple were visible, varying from an electric hue, to more subtle aubergine tones and was used in outerwear, dresses, lurex purple knits, knitwear as well as a background for prints. Being a great fan of blue, there was a lot showcased in the range of mini frocks, and princess cut tunic tops. In fact, the princess cut, with girly cap sleeves, seem to be all the rage across the continent and showed very firmly through the entire range.
Check out the new square necklines in knitwear, oversized cardigans, and grey marles. The look is minimal with just a couple of large buttons to add an accent to the outfit. Really short blousy coat tops, which are big in the continent were prominent here in both wool or mixed fabrics. They look ultra cool, matched with anything from their stretch denim or corduroy range of trousers to mini skirts.
Evening wear
And then, the piece de resistance, was their evening wear collection. That’s where one can easily go overboard shopping, as the choice and range is mind boggling. The fabrics and prints range from satin - both low lustre and high shine satins. Their washed satin creates a look that is smooth and sleek, and are available in metallic’s including pewter, silver, bronze with an antique finish and a burnished in appearance. Again the tunic tops here were very feminine with lots of rouging and satin ribbons to finish the outfit.
With the silhouette being feminine and reminiscent of the 1940s in this collection, a variety of skirts were available from the flared to the pencil skirts and unusual, mannish wide leg pants. folded up at the bottom. Cinched in waists and high pants atypical of the 40s made an interesting deviation.
The line on the whole was unfussy and looked easy to maintain. Apparently, according to the shop assistant, the key look is to wear your shirt tucked into your wide leg, high waisted pants, or high waisted pencil skirt.
Past Hollywood icons such as Marlene Dietrich come to mind when viewing the collection.
