The High Court on Friday reserved its judgement on Infosys mentor, N R Narayana Murthy’s petition against a private criminal complaint over his alleged disrespectful remarks about the national anthem in April 2007.
Justice Anand Byra Reddy reserved the matter for judgement, after concluding arguments on behalf of Narayana Murthy and the respondent complainant, former minister and MP H N Nanje Gowda.
Narayana Murthy has challenged the Magistrate’s order issuing summons to him in August 2007, upon Nanje Gowda’s complaint. The complaint was filed in connection with Murthy’s statements to the media about not singing the national anthem during former President Dr A P J Abdul Kalam’s visit to the Infosys campus in Mysore in April 2007.

The High Court on Friday dismissed a PIL which had sought a direction to the State Election Commission to delete the list of documents notified as alternatives to Election Commission’s Photo Identity Voter’s ID card for the voters of local bodies elections.
The petitioner, Basavaraj Sindhur G from Savanur, Haveri district had sought deletion of documents like ration card, telephone bill, property tax documents which do not have photo identity of the holder from the list of alternatives for Voter ID Card, in a 2003 SEC notification relating to local bodies elections. Such provision leads to impersonation and malpractices during voting, the petitioner had said.
Land sale challenged
The High Court on Friday admitted a PIL challenging the validity of sale of about 20 acres land in Doddakallasandra, Uttarahalli hobli, belonging to Bangalore Development Authority (BDA), at a meagre price of Rs 88 lakh.
The petitioner, B V Shivaswamy from Bangalore, contended that BDA’s action in selling the valuable land at a throwaway price to the BDA Employees Welfare Association was against the interest of public revenue. The Division Bench headed by Chief Justice Cyriac Joseph admitted the petition, while ordering notices to Housing and Urban Development department, BDA, BBMP and BMRDA.
