With an objective to introduce the common man to the various innovations in the field of horticulture, a horticulture exhibition will begin on the 24th in Tumkur at the City Horticulture Department offices.
The four-day long exhibition is part of the Tumkur Zilla Utsav and will conclude on the 27th of this month.
The District administration , Horticulture department, Farmers’ Association have all taken up the responsibility for this event.
About 19 varieties of flowers will be on display with 6000 flowers in full bloom beckoning the visitors.
Varieties of boganvilla, croton and roses are expected to be the chief attractions. Seasonal flowers like Aster, Seloshia, Casus, Kaumb and marigold will also stand in their colourful splendour.
About 12 varieties of plants will also be exhibited. Kolias, Dypan, Mordant, Ferns and Palms will all be at their leafy best.
Even vegetables are part of the showing and farmers from all the taluks in Tumkur will be participating in it. An Ikebana competition along with other contests will also be held as part of this programme.
The contest for the best residential gardens will also be held.
There will also be exhibits from the agriculture, fisheries, animal husbandry to explain the various innovations in them.
This was disclosed by the Joint Director of the Horticulture department H S Shiva Kumar while speaking to ‘Deccan Herald’.
Thirteen to fifteen thousand people are expected to throng the exhibition and school children will be allowed to come in every afternoon free of cost. Attractive gifts will also be given to those who win the contests that are part of the programme.
