The New Alchemists
MOSCOW, Jan. 19.
Soviet scientists plan in the near future to make gold from lead by using common chemical elements, Soviet Academican A Bardin said in the Economic and Industrial Journal.

Thanks to a new branch of industry, “radioactive metallurgy”, Soviet scientists would be able to produce rare metals from common chemical elements, Bardin said.

He said that it was possible that this method would become “as common as the present method of obtaining metals from minerals”.

Never too late
MADRID Jan. 19.
An 83-year-old woman Garcia Surez whose husband is 92, has given birth to twins in the village of Correcilla Leon Provision.

Senora Garcia Surez already had five children and numerous grandchildren. The youngest child before the birth of the twins was a son, now aged 46, it was reported.

Hegde to usher in electoral reforms
NEW DELHI, Jan. 19.
Chief Minister Ramakrishna Hegde offered to make Karnataka “a ground for experiment” for all ideas of electoral reforms including anti-defection legislation that the Election Commission has envisaged. Mr Hegde said his Government proposed to introduce an Anti-Defection Bill in the State Assembly.
