In the third such offence in a month, a 25-year-old woman tourist from Switzerland was allegedly raped by the owner of a hotel in Pushkar, the pilgrim town of Rajasthan.
The proprietor of Hotel Nanu Garden, Nanuram Rawat was arrested and the woman has been sent for a medical examination, Ajmer Superintendent of Police Anand Srivastava said on Saturday.
He said the Swiss tourist came to his office and lodged a complaint that she was sexually assaulted by the owner of the hotel where she was staying a week back.
Following her complaint, an FIR was registered under section 376 (rape) of IPC and a police team sent to arrest Rawat, the SP said.
The alleged rape comes exactly 10 days after a guest house owner here was arrested on the charge of raping a 40-year-old British freelance journalist and a priest’s relative held for allegedly molesting an American woman tourist in Udaipur.
This is the third incident of rape of a foreign tourist in this town, famous for the Brahmasarovar, Lord Brahma temples and livestock fair in less than a year.
A Japanese woman was raped and robbed of Rs 54,000 by the manager of another local hotel and three of his accomplices on April 2 last year.
