And what a standing ovation the young hearts gave to their leader — the former president of India, A P J Abdul Kalam as he entered the auditorium and greeted his young friends.
Arogya Chetana — a “first-of-its-kind” health insurance scheme for children from Class one to 10 is a joint venture between Adamya Chetana, a voluntary organisation working in the field of social development and New India Assurance Company. “The policy covers hospitalisation costs of up to Rs 10,000 per child per year. The contribution to premium will be paid by donors, school management parents,” said Tejaswini Ananthkumar, chairperson of Adamya Chetana on the sidelines of the inauguration.
Mr Kalam unveiled the policy and handed over insurance cards to 22 children symbolically. “It’s a fantastic scheme and should be replicated all over the country. For covering children with heart ailments, Adamya Chetana can tie up with the Little Heart Foundation in Hyderabad,” he added.
Ms Tejaswini said that children, preferably in groups can avail of Arogya Chetana from anywhere in the country.
