The State Election Commission (SEC) is planning to bring to the notice of the Supreme Court about delay on the part of the State Government to put in place 207 urban local bodies, though elections were held four months ago.
SEC Advocate Phaneendra said that the issue will be brought to the notice of the apex court on Monday when it will be taking up the final hearing on the special leave petition challenging Karnataka High Court staying conducting elections to ULBs in the State. Subsequently, SEC conducted the elections with the SC vacating the stay.
Though elections to 2007 ULBs were held in September 2007, none of them has come into existence as the Government is delaying the process of finalising the reservation roster.
“The purpose of conducting elections has not been served as ULBs have not come into existence so far. So we will bring it to the notice of the court if got a chance,” Phaneendra added.
