Swami Harshananda, Head of Ramakrishna Mutt, Basavanagudi on Tuesday spoke on the significance of the Kalpataru Day.
In Hindu Mythology there are references of a tree called Kalpataru (wish fulfiling tree) in heaven. If a person sits below the tree and makes a wish it will be fulfiled, as per the legend, he said.
Bhagwan Sri Ramakrishna after recovering from illness came down from his two storied Cossiopore Garden house (in Kolkata) to ground floor on January 1, 1886. He fulfiled the desires of all devotees present by mere touch. From that day, devotees of the Mutt celebrate January 1, as Kalpataru Day.
It is their experience and belief that prayers to Sri Ramakrishna will be fulfiled, he added.
