Rotary Foundation under its ‘Drishti Rakshana’ project has decided to sponsor the eye surgery of 53 school children from the district to rectify their squint eye problem, from January 8 onwards.
Addressing a news conference on Tuesday, Eye Specialist Dr Appurao Pai said that the preliminary eye test will be conducted on January 8 for the children from Madikeri at District Hospital in room no 29 at 9 am; on 9th for children from Somwarpete at Somwarpete District Hospital at 9 am; and on 10th for children from Virajpete at Gonikoppa Government Hospital at 9 am.
He said that Rotary aims to solve the squint eye problem of children in 8 districts including Kodagu under the ‘Drishti Rakshana’ project and the surgery of the children will be conducted at Usha Kiran Hospital in Mysore free of cost.
Dr Pai said that parents need not worry about the squint eye problem in their children at all as it is not a curse. It can be rectified by a half an hour long operation.
