If the officials in any organisation work selflessly and with dedication and sincerity then it will not only benefit the public but also lakhs of rupees can be saved for the government. However, if the officials show neglect then the government has to suffer losses of lakhs of rupees. BSNL is a prime example of the latter.
In spite of BSNL having its own building it is operating from a rented premises paying a huge rent of Rs 12,000 per month. It is housed in a building which is fit only for living and not for a office like BSNL. Both the office and customer service cell is being run from this place. Hence, neither the customer is benefited nor the government.
The office and quarters of BSNL is already built at a cost of Rs 2.5 crore on Dibburu Road. But the building is lying vacant. The office that is currently there on MG Road does not have even basic facilities.
The customers who come to BSNL have no place to sit. It does not have drinking water. When it rains then the files are damaged. The space is so congested that the employees cannot also work freely.
The customer service cell can be started behind the post and telegraph department on BB Road where they can attract more customers. Though there is space here the officials are least bothered to do anything about it.
The building which is lying vacant on Dibburu Road can be used as divisional engineer’s office. Thus the rent being paid can be saved and also the building on which crores of rupees has been spent can be used.
The five quarters built for the employees is lying vacant. The higher officials of the department instead of residing in the headquarters are all travelling from Bangalore. As a result when the customers need them they are not available, allege the public.
The customers are also not getting the kind of service they need. Though Chikkaballapur is a district headquarters, the officials here point to Kolar for every small work. If a customer loses a sim card he has to get the sim card from Kolar. Post paid customers have to again go to Kolar to pay their bills.
The computers and other machines installed here about a year ago so that customers can remit the bill here has still not started working.
Whenever the officials are asked about this, they brush it aside, allege post paid customers.
The private players have invaded the market. The customers strongly feel that they are providing better service than BSNL. In spite of such intense competition, the officials are displaying a devil may care attitude. This is also resulting in dwindling customer basse.
The higher officials have to draw their attention to this trend and see that the government owned BSNL really starts competing.
