Karnataka batsmen failed to build on their starts as the hosts squandered a chance to pile up a considerable first innings total against Hyderabad on the first day of the under-13 inter-state cricket tournament on Tuesday.
As many as four batsmen got off to good starts, but did not convert them into more substantial scores as Karnataka managed only 236 runs in their first essay. In reply, the visitors were 47 for one in 18 overs at close.
D Nischal appeared to be set for another big knock as he had done against Tamil Nadu a couple of days ago.
He made 62 (112b, 10x4) before C V Milind, who took four wickets in all, ended his stay at the crease. KN Bharath and Abhishek Reddy too looked solid, but could not carry their knocks beyond the 30s. F Shimon Luiz played a nice little cameo (45 n.o).
Brief scores: Karnataka: 236 all out in 73.1 overs (Nischal D 62, K N Bharath 33, Abhishek Reddy 37, Shimon Luiz F 45 n.o; C V Milind 4-56, Mohit Soni 3-47) vs Hyderabad: 47/1 in 18 overs. Tamil Nadu: 289 all out in 76.5 overs (U Vishal 31, Prasanna Venkatesh 87 n.o, Geeth Puri 31; Sidharth K 5-44) vs Kerala: 38/3 in 13.3 overs (M Shah Rukh Khan 2-3). Andhra: 457 all out in 78.5 overs (Sham Sunder 43, Naveen Reddy 200, Vamsikrishna 79; Shivam Mapsekar 4-116, Sherman Vaz 3-99) vs Goa : 75 for no loss in 9 overs (Prathamash batting 39, Vikas Shetty batting 36).
