GOLD ‘DIGGERS’ STRIKE
Bangalore, DHNS: Unidentified men dug a tunnel through a drain to gain entry into a jewellery manufacturing unit in Whitefield and escaped with valuables worth Rs 3 lakh on Sunday night.

Police said Rajesh Exports, the jewellery unit, had water-tight security. One had to pass through four gates to enter the premises which had an electrified fence. Besides, CCTV was installed at several spots and security guards posted during the night.

Nearly half a kilometre away, a long passage was dug through a drain that led into the premises. Once inside, the burglars drilled a hole into the manager’s cabin and laid their hands on the currency chest. In the melee, several Rs 1,000 denomination cash bundles were found scattered. Interestingly, the electrified fence was cut and CCTVs were switched off. Security guards - Vinod Raj and Madan Joshi - both from Nepal, reportedly gave contradictory statements to the police.

A few months ago, 2 kg of gold powder were stolen from the same place.
