Lovers tie the knot with police help
Shidlaghatta, DHNS:
It can be called a semi-arranged love marriage. A prospective groom and a bride, who met each other in the presence of their parents as per the 'bride-seeing ritual', eloped and got married with the help of the police as they faced opposition from their parents for the wedding.

It was about six months ago that Mahadesh from Chadalpur went to Jangamakote along with his parents and elders to see Suguna, the prospective bride.  After the ritual, elders from both sides were not in favour of the relation. Mahadesh’s family went back to their village and matrimonial talks were discontinued. However, as the elders forgot about the entire episode, the bride and groom could not do so, as it was love-at-first sight for both of them. They had already started sending intimate SMSes to each other and eventually decided to get married.

While their parents remained clueless about the development, the young lovers eloped one fine day. Panic struck parents and villagers held a massive search for them for a week. After a week the couple were spotted.

After learning their love story the villagers decided to get them married. However, parents from both sides continued opposing the wedding. It was at this juncture that the police came to the help of the lovers.

In the Hanuman temple, situated next to the rural police station, the villagers organised a simple wedding with police co-operation. Later, their marriage was registered in the taluk office.
