'Women's contribution to folk culture ignored'
Kolar, DHNS:
"The contributions of the women to the folk culture has been marginalised in the male dominated society. There is need to study the role of women in social and economic fields." opined Udayavani Editor Dr R Poormina.

She was speaking after inaugurating the 5 day  ‘Women and Culture’ camp jointly organised Kannada and Culture Directorate, Kannada Book Authority, Karnataka Sangeeta-Nrutya Academy,  Karnataka Janapada and Yakshagana Academy and Kolar Adima Association at Terahalli hills on the outskirts of Kolar city.

“Social scientists say that it was women who first started agriculture and it was she who was also responsible for humans to lead a settled life at one place. One has carry out a detailed study to understand the deep relationship between been women and culture has she not only manages children, but also takes care of the household chores.” suggested Poornima.

“The role of women in any civilisation is innate but one needs research those in order to bring them to light. The male dominated society has carefully evaded those details as result their is no recorded history of those”, she added. “It is a sheer paradox that women even though have contributed immensely to the language, folk culture and different professions is no records of those”, relented Poornima who said that though women are worshiped as goddess Lakshmi and Saraswati neither to do women have money power or the power of education. Women don’t even own 1 per cent of the total world’s wealth”, she expressed.

50% population
“Though women form 50 per cent of the population they are not even given 10 per cent reservation in Legislative assembly or Lok Sabha”, regretted Poornima who said that present day society is hesitating to give women equal power.
