Director Disclaims Responsibility
Bombay, Jan. 21.
Mr L S Vaidyanathan, Managing Director of the Life Insurance Corporation, in charge of the investment section, told the Chagla Commission today that he was faced with a “fait accompli” in regard to the decision to purchase shares worth Rs 1.26 crores in six Mundhra concerns in June last by the Corporation. The Commission is holding a probe into the investments in Mundhra concerns by the Corporation.
Offer To Help Resettle Refugees

An initial offer of nearly one lakh acres of land to rehabilitate displaced persons from East Pakistan, now living in camps, was made by Chief Ministers of Different States at a conference here today.

Workers On Rampage

A 3,000 strong mob went on rampage today at Whitefield, near here, burning down a factory, ransacking houses and pelting stones damaging property worth several lakhs. At least a dozen people, including three policemen, were injured.
