Advisor to Governor P K H Tharakan on Monday inaugurating the silver jubilee celebrations of Kudige Sports school said that Government is all set to provide more encouragement for sports.He said that though India and Karnataka have made strides in sports, there is a long way to go.
“India’s dreams to win medals at Olympics is not yet realised efficiently. Sports in India must be encouraged to the extent that India bags medals in the International sports,” Mr Tharakan added and opined that China has planted its flag high in the field of sports through opening more sports schools and thus encouraging sports.
Retired IGP A J Ananda said that lot of athletes migrate to other states in search of better opportunities.
Government must come forth to provide better employment opportunities for athelets and stop migration sports talents to other states. Department of Sports retired director C Chikkanna, MLC Arun Machaiah, former minister Dhananjay Kumar, Deputy Commissioner K R Niranjan, former olympian M P Ganesh were present.
