On January 17, the Lokayukta police arrested Deepak, who used to pose as a CCB official and had demanded Rs one lakh from Shibukumar, owner of a service apartment in Koramangala, to cover his alleged prostitution racket.
During interrogation he revealed that seven CCB officials (Women and Narcotic Squad) — Sub Inspector V Nagesh, Assistant Sub Inspector, H Narayana Murthy, Head Constable V Venkatesh and constables G Venkatesh, Appaji, Rangaswamy PC and Chandrappa of the CCB allegedly used Deepak alias Sreekanth to extort money from Shibukumar.
On January 18, the ADG (Lokayukta) Rupak Kumar Dutta wrote to the police commissioner N Achyuta Rao asking him to suspend the ‘tainted’ officials.
TV crew attacked
The crew of a TV news channel was allegedly attacked by some HAL employees on Wednesday. Mediapersons had gone to cover a general body meeting, but employees claimed their permission wasn’t sought.
The meeting was on at the office of HAL Employees’ Union building when TV journalists made their entry. This angered the union leaders, who used force to drive them out. The mediapersons later lodged a complaint with HAL police station. The union leaders too lodged a complaint with the HAL police, charging the journalists with entering their premises without permission.
Inquiry into assault
Railways has initiated an inquiry into the incident in which TTE G Nagaraj allegedly assaulted a commuter Shiva Kumar on Tuesday at the City Railway Station, aaccording to DRM, Bangalore division of South Western Railway, Mahesh Mangal.
Held for killing wife
Sanjay Nagar police arrested a man on Tuesday in connection with the murder of his wife ten days ago. Police said Raju B Patil was absconding after killing his wife Ambli Bharathi.
Man found murdered
A man was found murdered near the Uttarahalli burial ground on Wednesday. Police said Nagaraj (32), a labourer from Andhra Pradesh, was killed on the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday.
