The train, a photographic exhibition on wheels, is commemorating 150 years of the First War of Independence, 60 years of independence and Shaheed Bhagat Singh’s centenary. And the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting with the support of Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Railways have indeed done this in a splendid fashion.
The train painted outside in tricolours, popular patriotic songs from Hindi movies and the wonderful lighting inside transports one to a totally different world. Classic photographs in enlarged sizes of outstanding contributors to the freedom struggle and landmark events ever since the British set foot inside the country to the present era are breathtaking. Snippets on the freedom struggle in Kannada, English and Hindi are quite enlightening. Much perfection has gone into each depiction.
The first general elections, indescribable atrocities by the British, First Asiad Games, White Revolution, Green Revolution, the Right to Information Act figure among the pictorial depictions and there is a seperate section on freedom fighters of Karnataka. H T Sangliana, MP inaugurated the exhibition. Freedom fighter Tirumale Rangacharya was present on the occasion.
The train will be stationed at platform 3 of Cantonment Station till January 27. The exhibition will be open from 10 am to 6 pm and the entry is free.
