The Board has proposed to acquire 30 acres of land belonging to the farmers of the village for construction of houses. “Already a considerable amount of agricultural land in Mallaghatta has been acquired by the State authorities for different projects such as Hemavathi canal, national highway and railway lanes. Now the housing board is eyeing the lands of farmers. This is not fair,” said BJP leader B M Huchchegowda.
He accused that the land being acquired will be indirectly utilised for real estate purposes. “If they want lands for construction of houses, let them acquire government lands. If they go ahead with acquiring farmers’ land, they will have to face severe agitation in the coming days,” he warned.
Vishwanath, Suresh, Chandranna, Venkatesh and other leaders addressed the protesters.
Vishwanath criticised the growing trend of acquiring farm land by the government for various projects. BJP president K K Ramesh and hundreds of villagers including Ravi, Venkataramaiah and Rangegowda took part in the protest.
Kunigal taluk Karnataka Rakshana Vedike activists supported the protest.
After the rasta roko, the protesters walked up to the tahasildar office and submitted a memorandum to the tahasildar.
