Window to the world
Discovery channel will present a portrait of the worlds greatest and unique nations seen through the lives of their extraordinary people in the premiere series - Discovery Atlas.

The premiere episode, India revealed will be telecast on January 26 at 9 pm.

Subsequent episodes on six other countries - Brazil, China, Australia, Italy, Mexico and South Africa - will air every Saturday at 9 pm. Episodes on Russia, France, Japan and Egypt are currently under production and will air later this year.

Visual record
The series creates the most complete visual record of the history, civilisation, geography, industry, technology and people of the world. Each two-hour episode is narrated by a celebrity including Russel Crowe (Australia revealed), Mira Nair (India revealed), James Spader (China revealed), Edward James Olmos (Mexico revealed), Isabella Rossellini (Italy revealed), Andre Braugher (South Africa revealed) and Sela Ward (Brazil revealed).

During the shooting of India revealed the biggest thing that struck the crew about filming in India was the fact that nothing was ever a problem here.

Wanting to shoot in the Sundarbans mangrove swamp - the largest mangrove swamp in the world infested with snakes, crocodiles and tigers, the crew had hoped to do a crane shot from the middle of the jungle but were told that being a swamp, there was no firm ground and the tidal range was over 12 feet so it would be hard to put a film crane up next to the river.

However, when they returned the next day they discovered an incredible 20 feet high tower made out of bamboo felled from the jungle. It was steady as a rock and they managed to get the shot.
