Officials warned of stringent action
DH News Service, Bangalore:
Chief Electoral Officer R Ramaseshan on Wednesday warned officials on electoral revision duty that stringent action will be taken if they fail to get the filled-in form 6, from people who are freshly identified to add in the voters list.

“There cannot be any excuses. I want form 6 from all those listed in the addition list. If not, the booth level officials (BLOs) will be held responsible and action will be initiated,” he said.

The State Electoral Office (SEO) has directed BLOs to catch hold of people who are in the addition list and get form 6 filled. Only when the form 6 is filled, the names will be included in the voters’ list. But BLOs have been complaining that it is a difficult task.

BLOs with whom this paper interacted in Bangalore, had stated that they won’t be able to get even 80,000 forms filled of around 2.5 people who are in the addition list in Bangalore.

Ever since the Central Election Commission pulled up the SEO over errors in voters’ list, the SEO has tightened the procedure on adding fresh names to the voters’ list.

Ridiculous
But Ramasheshan termed BLOs’ argument as ridiculous. “How can they (BLOs) say this? How can such a large number of people vanish all of a sudden? It defies all logic,” he stated.

He further said, “I don’t think booth level officials have met nomads for them to have left the city now. They must have found those people at their houses. So, all they need to do is visit those houses again and get the form 6 filled.”

The Chief Electoral Officer said efforts are being made to prepare error-free rolls. Steps will also be taken to provide electoral photo identity cards to as many voters as possible, he added.

CROSS-CHECK
To ensure that the ongoing revision process is done effectively, the special observers appointed by the CEC - Chief Electoral Officers of four States -  for all four divisions of the State, are overseeing the exercise. The special observers with the assistance of other officials, visited many districts in the last two days and verified the revision exercise.

Thrust has been given on two districts of Mysore - Chamundeshwari and Narasimharaja Assembly constituency -- and Kolar -- Srinivaspura and Mulbagal - where the number of voters listed in the electoral rolls were in excess to the total population. They will file a report in this regard to the CEC, one of the district commissioners said. When contacted, Ramasheshan said that there is nothing new in overseeing the exercise. Special observers are appointed for this purpose and they will directly file the report to the CEC.
