R-Day fete: CCTVs to keep tabs
DH News Service, Bangalore:
The Bangalore Urban District administration is gearing up to make Republic Day parade on Saturday safe and hassle-free.

Deputy Commissioner M A Sadiq, member of the overseeing committee, told reporters on Thursday that the venue - the Manekshaw Parade Ground — would be monitored through CCTV cameras located at 10 strategic positions.

Invitees to the parade will have to carry their invitations and will not be allowed in the venue with handbags, radios, water bottles or cell phones.

Parking will be allowed only for VVIPs at one of the four gates (G2), while other vehicles will be allotted parking space at the BRV Parade Ground. Around 15,000 chairs will be in place for the invitees. He said all the invitees have to be seated by 8.30 am.

The events will commence with Governor Rameshwar Thakur unfurling the tricolour at 9 am, followed by the National Anthem.

The Governor will later review the parade and address the gathering. The march past will be followed by a cultural programme and distribution of prizes.

Students from Navodaya School, Shrirampura BBMP School, Siddaganga Institute (Davanagere) and Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (Kolar) and a unit of the Army will participate.  The overseeing committee for the celebrations is chaired by BBMP Commissioner S Subramanya.
