With 50 staff including 10 doctors, 16 paramedics and two pharmacists — the unit will monitor the parade. And if Thursday’s parade rehearsals were an indication, the Cell is in for a busy Saturday. “About 30 students complained of giddiness during rehearsals,” said, Pradeep K K, the Cell’s Liaison Officer. Three ambulances will be stationed on the ground, he said.
The Cell was constituted in November, 2007 under the leadership of Bangalore Urban District DC, M A Sadiq.
“The unit on the ground will have a physician, cardiologist, orthopedist, ENT specialist and a pediatrician. Four beds and ECG machines will also be in place,” Sadiq said. The Cell coordinates with 23 government departments and the NGO Tejas.
It has two emergency responder squads and a main static squad in place. Under a tie-up with 30 private and six government hospitals, the Cell can mobilise 60 ambulances in 20 minutes, he claimed.
The Cell can be reached by calling police control rooms.
