M'lore may get another KSRTC bus terminus
DH News Service, Mangalore:
If all goes well, the fast growing City would get a new spacious KSRTC bus terminus in the near future.

District In-Charge Secretary Bharatlal Meena, who dreamt a well-planned Mangalore during his term as DK deputy commissioner a decade ago, revealed this idea on Thursday.

Addressing media persons after chairing a review meeting of various departments at DC’s office here, he said the process of acquiring about 6 acres of land for the new bus stand was on around Mangalore.

“The existing bus stand will continue to function. But the pace in which the city is growing, calls for another KSRTC bus stand, apart from the private bus stand. The review meeting discussed the progress achieved in this direction,” he said.

New railway station
The district administration will also propose a new railway station near Bajpe Airport, Mr Meena said, adding that they were writing to Southern Railway demanding railway connectivity and a station. Railway overbridges at Kankanady, Padil, Bajal and Jeppu have been proposed, he informed.

Focusing on the developments at airport, he said initiatives were on progress towards constructing a new road from City to the airport.

About 80-90 acres of land will also be acquired to extend the new runway by 400 mts. Government has already given its green signal for the acquisition and agreed to provide the cost of acquisition too, he explained.
The Infrastructure Development department will take up the work of land acquisition. The ratio of compensation will be decided in the course of time, he informed.

Rangamandira
Mr Meena said the meeting also discussed the pending tender of Jilla Rangamandira proposed several years ago. Though four bidders applied for the tender, nobody came forward to take up the project.

The last date of the present tender is January 28. If nobody comes forward till that date, the government will decide the further course of action, he said.

Vented dam
The District In-Charge Secretary said the meeting also emphasised on the early implementation of the proposed second vented dam at Thumbe in the back drop of the increasing demand for drinking water.
It has been decided that both State government and City Corporation will take up the task by sharing the expenditure on 50:50 basis, he said and added that the drinking water problem was thoroughly in the review meeting.

National Highway
Revealing discussions regarding progress of concretisation works of NH 48 on Shiradi Ghat, Mr Meena said the NH division has agreed to complete the works by April or May this year.

The officials have been convinced to finish the project within monsoons, he said.

The progress achieved so far in connection with the establishment of commercial complex at Hampankatta and Urva Stores was also followed-up in the meeting, he briefed.

Deputy Commissioner M Maheshwar Rao, Zilla Panchayat President K P Sucharitha Shetty, Chief Executive Officer A M Kunjappa, Mescom Managing Director S Sumanth were present.
