And if there is one place you have to visit this week, it is the flower show organised by the Horticulture department in association with the Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat, District Administration, Mangalore City Corporation and Siri, at Kadri Park between January 25 and 28.
Some of the flowers and flower plants exhibited in the exhibition include Hibiscus, ‘Vinaka,’ show cabbage, ‘Daflaks,’ ‘Tecoma Golden,’ ‘Tecoma purple,’ ‘Jerberas,’ ‘Adenium,’ ‘Vfebriya,’ ‘Bigonia,’ ‘Euphorbia,’ ‘cocks comb,’ ‘Casmes,’ ‘Crysanthimum,’ different colours of roses, ‘genia,’ anthorium, ‘Dahlias,’ ‘Spingeri,’ ‘Canna,’ ‘Nerivam’ (kanagile), show chilly, ‘Plumbago,’ ‘Petonia’ and different colours of marigold, varieties of crotons. Many nurseries have set up stalls and have myriad varieties of saplings on sale. Here one can find saplings of flowering plants, medicinal herbs, fruit bearing trees, ornamental plants and bonsai at good prices.
There are various stalls at the venue that sell everything from herbal products to food items to garden implements. As for gardening enthusiasts, there is a lot to look forward to from organic manures, wormicompost, different types of garden tools are just a few among the many items sold at the venue. Apart from this there is an exclusive vegetable garden that boasts of different variety of vegetables, in various shapes and sizes. A vegetable garden has been set up to prove that vegetables like tomato, guard, sweet guard, pumpkin, bitter guard, brinjal, ladies finger, chilly can be grown even in pots and in small spaces.
A massive flower arrangement that features a large variety of roses, Crysanthimums, Jerberas are the greatest attraction of the flower show, if it doesn’t dry up in the heat for three days.
There are stall on farm machines selling machine driven mechanical harvester, organic debris chopper, Improved weeds/grass cutting machine, coconut tree climbing equipment etc.
There is a huge stall to sell the vegetables, stalls selling the products like happala, sendige, pickles, agarbathi, fruit juice, liquid soaps, phenyl, dresses, stuffed toys etc.
Entrance fee
There is a entry fee of Rs 3 for school children and Rs 5 for children and Rs 10 for adults.
The exhibition will be opened for the members of the public between 8 am and 8 pm on all three days.
There are various competitions for the public on kitchen garden, bonsai, arranging dry flowers, flower arrangements, rangoli, Ikebana and vegetable carving, collection of flowers for pooja etc.
The exhibition was inaugurated by Zilla Panchayat President Sucharitha Shetty.
