Don't sensationalise, leaders urge media
DH News Service, Mangalore:

Following a series of untoward incidents unfurling in the district, a peace meet was held on Friday at Deputy Commissioner’s office where senior leaders urged the media to be more responsible and ethical while reporting sensitive issues.

They said that media has been indulging into sensationalising obnoxious and provocative news and suspicious news which are acting as factors to add to the communal drift in the region.

Later Deputy Commissioner M Maheshwar Rao urged the media to be accurate and prioritise only on the news and not indulge into sensationalisation so as to prevent and restore peace in the region.

Mr Mohommad Rafeeq suggested that holding peace meetings in the DC office are of little use unless and until such meets are held in the station level including youth from all regions.

On one hand dignitaries like Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, Masood, Ahmed Bawa and others lauded the functioning of the District Administration but on the other hand Ahmed Jamal and others said that after Prez rule was imposed, the minorities have been deprived of their rights and have not been given justice.

B Ramanath Rai said that no individual or organisation must be given an opportunity to make provocative speeches. MLC Ganesh Karnik said that the people will co-operate with the police during complicated situations only if the Department is approachable.

“When innocents are punished, criminals are born. Hence care must be taken while punishing the youth,” Former MLA Yogish Bhat said.

Zilla Panchayat  President Sucharitha Shetty, Head Quarter Assistant to the office of Deputy Commissioner Prabhakar Sharma, Superintendent of Police Satheesh Kumar and others were present.
