With the commencement of the singing of Belthangady troupe at 11.50 pm on Saturday (the 20th troupe out of 43 troupes), the Mandd Sobhann has completed half the task of finding a place in Guinness Book of World Records for the world’s longest singing marathon (40 hours) by multiple singers, successfully.
“Till now, everything has been going on smoothly without any problem,” said Niranthari Media Committee Head Titus Noronha.
The Kalaangann was jam packed throughout the day on Saturday and the number of people visiting Kalaangann is expected to double on Sunday.
In fact, more than 4,000 tender coconuts have been consumed by visitors (each visitor is being given a tender coconut) and six persons have been exclusively engaged to distribute the tender coconuts at the entrance.
The feat began as the electronic clock ticked 6 in the morning on Saturday. Prior to the commencement of the feat, Mangalore Diocesan Bishop Rev Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza inaugurated and blessed the event by adding incense to fire at 5.45 am.
A round-the-clock media centre and a clinic too has been set up at Kalaangann and the entire area and the road leading to Kalaangann too has been decked up.
If everthing goes well, Guinness World Records Adjudicator Keith Pullin who has come all the way from London, will declare the Guinness Record in the name of Mandd Sobhann, shortly after 10 pm on Sunday.
