Sports is beneficial for the mental and physical development of students, said Mysore division officer Dhananjay.
Speaking after inaugurating the D S M Yahya Memorial Milind Cup Cricket Tournament in Giraguru Milinda Educational Institute near Kushalnagar on Thursday, he said students must involve themselves in creative activities and must learn English along with their mother tongue.
S M Saheed, a coffee grower from Suntikoppa said nowadays sports is being encouraged even in rural areas.
Students must make use of such opportunities and involve themselves in sports activities, he added.
