A mainline container vessel M V Kotahandal is expected to call at New Mangalore Port on January 29. According to a press release, this is the first mainline container vessel calling at the Port ever since the commencement of container traffic. This vessel under the agency of Sea Master Shipping & Logistics in Mangalore having a capacity of 594 TEUs with 200 reefer plug points will be coming to NMPT directly from East Africa with 123 TEUs of raw cashew. The transit period for the vessel from East Africa to Mangalore will be 7 days and the next port of call is Singapore with 8 days transit period. This will facilitate the raw cashew importers and reefer cargo exporters by reduction in transit period and less ocean freight.
M V Kinship Bungar has already brought 107 boxes of raw cashew from East Africa deployed by PIL.
The commencement of 2 more new feeder lines, ie, Seaways Shipping and Relay Shipping in addition to BTL has resulted in more number of schedules for the speedy movement of containers, the release added.
