The first phase of concretisation of roads inside New Mangalore Port (NMP) near Mallya Gate has been completed and the road has been inaugurated by NMPT Chairman P Tamilvanan on Wednesday. He has also formally inaugurated the newly procured 45 T capacity Reach Stacker for handling containers which is an addition to the same type procured recently. According to a press release, this is part of the various measures taken up by the port to improve the infrastructure to cope up with the increased flow of traffic.
In addition to the above, the work of hardening and extension of 40,000 sq mtrs of paved container stackyard with a capacity to stack 2500 TEUs is in progress. The availability of reefer plug points has been enhanced to 84.
A new railway line has been commissioned recently inside the port for the smooth movement of bulk cargo and one more line will be added soon at the marshalling yard, the release added.
