Udupi district Agriculture Produce Marketing Committee (APMC) announced its plans to revitalise the APMC yards in and around the district on Friday.
Addressing a news conference, President Vijay Kumar Udyavar informed about various initiatives taken up to give a new look to the agricultural markets. He informed that around Rs 36 crore will be invested on the project and the year 2008 will witness an array of innovative projects as a step towards rejuvenating all the APMC yards in the district, he added.
Rural markets catering to the needs of the area will be inaugurated at Brahmavar and Padubidri simultaneously on January 28 and 29 respectively. Former MLAs Jayaprakash Hegde and Lalaji Mendon will inaugurate the markets respectively, Mr Kumar informed
He also said that free medical check up camps will be organised for the farmers at Dr A V Baliga Memorial Hospital in Udupi which will be inaugurated by former minister Dr A S Acharya on January 30. Inauguration of the Developmental projects will also take place on January 30, he added. Secretary Pandu Shetty was present.
