The Reddy population, which has been oppressed for the last 60 years, should take concrete steps towards academic success for an improvement in their condition, said former minister Ramalinga Reddy.
He was presiding over a conference organised by the Vemana Reddy Jana Sangha, at Whitegarden, here on Sunday.
“Reddys make up just 5 per cent of the entire population of the State, but have not received the status we are entitled to. By helping our children excel in academics, we can bring our existence to the notice of the government. We should demand the internal reservation as per 3(a),” he said. The Reddy Sammelana will be held at Palace Grounds in Bangalore on March 9, he said, and urged the members of the
community to display their collective strength so that they can demand the facilities due to them.
Speaking at the occasion, M M Anjanappa Reddy, convenor of the Reddy Jana Sangha said that the Reddys should make their presence felt through success in education and business. “Whatever the situation may be, we must fight together for our rights,” he added.
State President of the Reddy Jana Sangha K Munivenkata Reddy lamented the fact that the Reddys, who were agriculturists, have now lost their lands. “Now, we have to progress with the help of education,” he said.
Former legislator Jyoti Reddy said that with women coming forward in all spheres, the community should stress on the education of women.
Jayaram Reddy and Kupendra Reddy, said that they would build the school building if local organisations provide sites.
