The political activities within various political parties have been revived with the state government announcing the reservations for the President and Vice-President’s posts in the Town Panchayat.
The President’s post has been reserved for Women (general), Vice-President has been reserved for general class. There are 6 seats of JD(S), 4 seats of BJP and one seat of Congress. There are candidates for the President’s post from both BJP and JD(S) but who will become the President is not yet clear.
Naeema, Fathima, Parvathamma, Sulochana are the women from JD(S). Saroja Surendra, Latha Lakshman are the women candidates from BJP.
JD(S) has former president Venkatesh, Dharmapal, BJP has H D Ramegowda, Javeed and Congress has Eliyas.
Seven votes are required to get majority. BJP has four seats and one MP Shree Kanthappa’s vote summing upto 5 votes while Congress has one seat and MLC Motamma’s vote.
JD(S) has 6 seats. In such a case who ever Congress decides to support, they will become the President.
Since coalition between JD(S) and BJP is impossible here in this region, the Town Panchayat elections here have become all the more interesting.
