Keeping a sharp eye on the coming eight assembly and the Lok Sabha polls, the BJP on Sunday claimed that people were eager for a change and would go all out to ensure success of the party in the states and that of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the country under the leadership of L K Advani.
In his presidential speech in the National Executive meeting here BJP President Rajanth Singh divided his praise between Advani and Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi. The executive meet would be followed by a two-day National Council which is expected to take the agenda of the controversial ‘Ramar Setu’ in Tamil Nadu.
While describing Advani as a leader with “a clean and impeccable political career”, Singh lauded Modi’s repeat success in Gujarat as “a victory of ideology and development.” He said Modi had demolished the myth that the BJP fails to retain the states under its rule.
Singh said NDA has put its stamp of approval on Advani being the prime ministerial candidate of the opposition alliance and expressed confidence that under Advani’s leadership NDA would outwit and defeat “the unnatural alliance of the UPA”.
The BJP President said alliance partners like JD-U, Shiv Sena, Biju Janta Dal and Akali Dal have been with the NDA for over a decade and described the growth of the opposition alliance as “a natural one” as against the UPA which he said had failed on all fronts. Party spokesman Ravi Shankar Prasad who gave details of Singh’s address said the BJP has no objection to its ally Shiv Sena seeking “some understanding with NCP” in Maharashtra.
‘Be ready’
The BJP President asked the party men to put their best foot forward in the assembly polls to retain and reclaim the BJP rule in eight states including Karnataka. He said the party would do well in Karnataka if elections are conducted on time. “Attempts are being made to delay polls in Karnataka,” he charged .
He accused the UPA for engaging in the policy of “divide and rule” adopted by the colonial masters by saying that “Muslims have first claim on nation’s resources.” Singh said the BJP believed in the development of all in the country.
Taking the UPA government to task, the BJP President said crisis on the farmers’ front has turned “unprecedented” with the rising rate of suicides. Similarly, he said acute poverty of landless labourers has reached it peak under the current dispensation.
Singh also demanded “a special session of Parliament” to discuss at length the problems of farmers and landless labourers in the country.
The meet would discuss party’s strategy for the states going to poll in the coming months with the feedback drawn from the respective state leaders.
