Bangalore, DHNS:

Commuters travelling in the ubiquitous autorickshaws have given a thumbs-down to the rude behaviour of drivers. They have demanded fool-proof meters to reduce the tampering of conventional meters and asked for stringent action against drivers demanding excess fare.

The special committee headed by Deputy Commissioner of Police, Traffic (East) has received responses via e-mail and snail mail from the public offering suggestions on the increase in minimum auto fares as demanded by various auto unions.

Seemanth Kumar Singh, DCP (East) told Deccan Herald on Monday said that a mixed response has been received over the issue of an upward revision in auto fares. “Majority of commuters have expressed their views against the behaviour of auto drivers and called for better etiquette. Installation of digital metres are also suggested,” he said.

Syed Shafi Ahmed, Regional Transport Officer and Additional Secretary RTA suggests that more buses be introduced to reduce dependency on autos by the middle class commuters. “Out of  32 lakh vehicles registered in the city, 72 percent comprises two wheelers, 16 percent cars, 4 percent buses/public transport and just 3 percent autos. People don’t like to  spend about Rs 80 to Rs 100 a day on auto expenses. They want a comfortable mode of transport,” he opined.

Dear Reader's
I am NRI working in kuwait and I take this good opportunity to express my view on this issue, I travel to India once in a year for one month and that one month make me ideal and sick by the local transport system of our so called high-tech city. Especially autorickshaws which is a source of transport for some like me how comes to his home once in a year and I can’t bye a car or a bike to leave it there when I am in Kuwait. You will not believe I have waited for more than one hour

The most miserable and uncomfortable way of mode of transport back home is Autos. The highest rude behaviour with the customer in the world is our so called Autos. They got all the credentials of rude behaviour, improper meters,un pleasant driving skills and uncultured. It is the politicians along with Officials to be blame for not taking any actions on them in the name of unions. please correct them before looking for rise in the charges in the name of living standards.

The increase in the fare should be justified by the Auto unions. The only issue we commuters face is after 7.00 pm, the auto drivers never agree to travel to certain destinations. At times even during the day time, these auto drivers say that we need to pay double or 1.5 times the meter as they would not get the customers. No authorities seems to be worried about this. For eg. On a sunday from Sahakaranagar to Cauvery Theater junction, auto driver from Sanjeevaninagar Autostand demanded Rs100!

If there are sufficient buses in right time people prefer to go by the same so that havoc of autos can be avoided.
As waiting for auto is strainous as that of for bus. Most of them dont come where we ask them even when people are ready to pay few Rs. more.
