Mr Moily was in the City on Monday to attend a discussion on his literary work “Sri Ramayana Mahanveshanam,” organised at Sridevi Technical College. Later, speaking at a press conference Mr Moily said Congress is ready to face elections at any time.
No excuses
“We are not finding excuses to postpone elections. Already we have conducted peoples’ movements in 24 districts. Congress is sure of winning elections with absolute majority. Because, in the present political chaos people have no other way but to give mandate to Congress which is the only party that can give a stable government,” he said.
Elections will be held before May 28th as decided by the Election Commission, he added. President of delimitation commission Justice Kuldip Singh has given a report on delimitation of constituencies in 26 states.
The report has already been tabled in the Parliament. The recommendations mentioned in the report will be implemented by the UPA government once they get the nod from the President of India. Rest is left to the discretion of the Election Commission, said Mr Moily.
Delimitation
He also said that no party should oppose the recommendations of the delimitation commission. Delimitation is happening after 30 long years. It is inevitable to accept the recommendations of the commission with a view to provide justice to all classes of the society, he added.
“Congress cannot stand any injustice meted out to any weaker class. Since BJP does not have any considerations towards the weaker sections of the society, it may not accept the recommendations of the commission. BJP is aiming at temporary political gains. People will not tolerate such attitude,” he remarked.
Congress had no role to play in deciding reservations in local bodies. The Governor has followed proper yardstick while deciding reservation.
BJP and JD(S) may approach the court in this matter, alleging that injustice is done to them. In fact, injustice is done even to Congress in this regard.
If Congress had any intention to misuse the power of the Governor, it would have come back to power after the JD(S)-BJP government collapsed, he pointed out.
