Only about 700 seats are available for the students, who aspire to take up the first ever Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) slotted for May 11. CLAT applications can be collected from January 31.
VC of the Bangalore-based National Law School of India University, Prof A Jayagovind told Deccan Herald that anywhere between 10,000 and 15,000 students are expected to take up the examination. However, he said that there was no uniform policy and that reservations varied from one university to another. “Some law schools have reservation for SC/ST students, while others included OBCs too,” he explained. The two-hour CLAT test will be in the objective type format comprising five sections : English, General Knowledge, Basic Mathematics, Legal and Logical Reasoning. The application will be issued from January 31 and the last date for submitting is April 10.
Apart from the seven National Law Schools at Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Raipur, Bhopal, Gandhinagar, Jodhpur, CLAT would also be set up in Delhi, Chennai, Cochin, Mumbai, Chandigarh, Shillong, Jammu, Guwahati, Patna, Jaipur, Lucknow and Bhubaneshwar.
