Siddaganga mutt ‘s Shivakumar swamiji has appealed to the district administration to stop the land acquisition process of the 1,567 acres of land of the villagers in Bellavi and Kora hobli in the taluk by the State government for industrial purposes.
If the State government acquires land in the name of development then the marginalised farmers who are dependent on the lands for their livelihood would be rendered vulnerable. This was expressed by the swamiji in the letter to the deputy commissioner.
Moreover, these farmers would be pushed to the brink of their existence, as they don’t have any other means of livelihood.
Thus, it is quite commonsensical on the part of the farmers to express anguish over the land acquisition process.
The district administration should thus be sensitive to the appeal of the farmers, observed seer.
Farmers of the following villages, Thimmarajanahalli, Vasantharasapura, Kempanadodderi, K Gollarahatti, Bathsandra, Yaladadlu, Thippedasarahalli, Linganahalli, Nagenahalli, Dyavaganahalli, and Kodihalli which are going to be acquired by the government, expressed their anguish over the process to the Siddaganga seer.
