Students to protest against varsity carry over system
DH News Service, Mangalore:

Mangalore University All College Students’ Union will stage a protest on February 1 to oppose the carry over system followed by the university, informed Union President V Krishnadas Kamath.

Speaking at a press meet on Wednesday, he said students of all colleges coming under the university will boycott classes to oppose the carry over system and submit a memorandum. As per Mangalore University rules, to appear for the fifth and sixth semester in the third year degree, a student must have cleared both the semesters in the first year degree. This has put students in the third year degree to hardships as they cannot appear for the fifth semester, he said.

The Regulation 15 of the semester system under the university says that a candidate who fails in a lower semester examination may go to higher semester. However, no candidate shall be permitted to take the fifth semester examination unless he/she passes all the papers of the first semester examination and no candidate shall be permitted to take the sixth semester examination unless he/she passes all the papers of the first and second semester examination.

Though requests were made to the vice-chancellor and the officials concerned to make amendments to the rule, they have not responded. Hence the Union has decided to organised the protest , he added.

i think these students need the counseling from their parents. Parents advise them suitably. the decision of the university is right .The concept of this condition is for their own benefit as they can concentrate and study for higher semester. Hello parents why are you keeping quiet on your students who could not pass the first and second semester students. I am sure students are wrong and as well their parents apathy their children. Solution rests with parents guiding the students properly.
