Mehar wins qualifiers

Delhi's Mehar Atwal shot a one-under-par 71 on the second day to take the top spot in the two-day qualifiers for the 91st Ladies All-India Amateur Golf Championship at the Eagleton Golf Resort on Wednesday.

Mehar took her two-day tally to one-over-par 145 in the Gold Division (0-12 handicap). By virtue of her good finish, the 13-year-old was given the top billing for the Match Play event beginning on Thursday.
Laverry Kumar shot a fine 70 to finish second. Local lass Sharmila Nicollet (70), leader of the Merit List, finished third, two strokes behind Laverry.

In the Silver Division, Anisha Padukone took the top honours, edging Prateeksha Ravi in a play-off. Both had finished with a two-day total of 171.

In the Bronze Division, Asha Doshi took the top spot with a cumulative score of 198.
Nine-year-old Aditi Ashok was second with a total of 201.

Scores (after 36 holes):
Gold Division (0-12 handicap): 145: Mehar Atwal (74, 71); 146: Laverry Kumar (76, 70); 148: Sharmila Nicollet (78, 70); 157: Gauri Monga (77, 80).
Silver Division (13-24): 171: Anisha Padukone (84, 87), Prateeksha Ravi (86, 85); 172: Sharmeen Chinoy (88, 84).
Bronze Division (25-36): 198: Asha Doshi (96, 102); 201: Aditi Ashok (99, 102); 211: Rama Khanna (106, 105).

IISc, Young Muslims score

IISc and Young Muslims scored over Bharat Mata and Young Challengers respectively in the ‘C’ Division football league on Wednesday.

At the IISc ground, the hosts defeated Bharat Mata 2-0 with Manju (23rd minute) and Roger (29th) finding the target.

At the Austin Town grounds, Young Muslims registered a solitary goal win. Santosh scored the winner in the 11th minute.

Gopinath takes badminton title

Kallaimani Gopinath of Dr Ambedkar Institute of Technology, Bangalore, won the men’s singles title in the fourth all-India Super Six-2008 badminton tournament for the disabled.
Gopinath defeated Shishir Deep in the final held in Orissa (Angul District) recently.

Chess tourney  on Feb 9

The 13th T Ranjana annual memorial chess tournament will be held on February 9 & 10 at the Yuvaka Sangha, Gandhi Bazar, Basavanagudi. Last date for receiving entries is February 7. For details, contact R Hanumantha (ph: 99451-90200/ 2661-2184).

Corporate football meet

Bodybuilding team named

A 21-member contingent will represent Karnataka in the 23rd Federation Cup bodybuilding championship to be held in Mumbai from February 16.
The squad: Shanmugasundara, M Raghavendra, Hanumantha, Syed Iqbal, Shanoor Ali, SS Syamasundara, Arun Kumar, M Prakash, Devaraj, MV Manjunath, R Harish, N Viswanath, Shodhanrai, Sebastin, Anjanagowda, AV Harish, Sheshappa, Sunil Pais, Suresh, R Venkatesh (manager), O Menezes (official).
