Jeev Milkha Singh may have been overtaken by Jyoti Randhawa in the world golf rankings, but the newly-married Chandigarh pro continues to be the top draw among the Indian expats in Dubai, as the Indian duo tunes up for the Dubai Desert Classic.
"I want to get in good rhythm for the India swing," said Jeev, who will be playing the EMAAR-MGF Indian Masters and the Johnnie Walker Classic. In between he is also expected to tee up for the SAIL Open, a new event on the Asian Tour in India.
"That will be a great month for Indian golf, though I will also go to Indonesia in between," said Jeev.
The Majlis Course at the Emirates Golf Club has been a fairly happy hunting ground for Jeev and Jyoti Randhawa, while Shiv Kapur looks forward to his maiden appearance at the Dubai Desert Classic Thursday. Jeev has been paired with South African Charl Schwartze and Bardley Dredge, while Randhawa goes out with Richard Green and Thongchai Jaidee. Kapur has been put alongside Johan Edfors and Jose-Philippe Lima.
Jeev, who once set a Tour record for lowest number of putts in four rounds at the Dubai Desert Classic, has also had a top-10 finish here and so has Randhawa.
In the latest edition, where the focus will once again be on Tiger Woods, Jeev is hoping to tune himself up well for the Masters for which he has been invited specially this year. Last year he made the cut and finished 37th.
Randhawa, seventh at Dubai last year, was also seventh last week in Qatar, which means he is in good form. Gone is the early glitch of missing the cut in Abu Dhabi.
Among others, one player looking to exploit his current brilliant run is the current leader of The European Tour Order of Merit, Lee Westwood, who has finished in the top five in his three events this season. Indeed his run of top tens extends to eight in his last nine European Tour events and 11 in his last 12 worldwide.
"Dubai is a place I like playing," said Westwood. "I've always felt the course suits me.”
