State poets for Saarc festival
Bangalore, dhns: Young poets of Kannada V M Manjunath and P Bharathidevi have been selected to take part in SAARC poetry festival of young poets scheduled to be held in Orissa from February 22 to 25.
Foundation of SAARC Writers and Literature is holding the festival. Poets of different languages will recite their poems at Bhubaneshwar, Puri, Konark and Cuttak as part of the festival.
Manjunath and Bharathidevi will be representing young poets of Kannada in the festival.
Manjunath has brought out two collections of poetry - Father 55 mattu Neenasam Dairy Kavithegalu and Level Crossing.
He has also penned a play - Krimi.
Bharathidevi has brought her first collection of poems - Nillisabeda Kayuvudannu.
Rally planned
Bangalore, dhns: Karnataka State Anganwadi Workers and Helpers Samyuktha Sangarsha Samithi will stage protest rally ‘Raj Bhavan Chalo’ from City Railway station to Raj Bhavan on February 7 at 10.30 am demanding the government to fulfil their demands. Around 25,000 anganwadi workers and helpers are expected to participate in the rally.
Rescued boy is stable
Gulbarga, dhns: The condition of the six-year-old Navanath Kamble, who was rescued from the borewell trap at Bhusnur near Aland on Tuesday, is healthy and stable.
District General Hospital Superintendent Dr P Susheela told Deccan Herald that Navanath has not developed any complications. “All necessary investigations such as his blood, urine test have been carried out on Wednesday. If reports are normal he may be discharged from the hospital on Thursday,’’ Dr Susheela said.
Konkani songs
A team of 36 singers from Konkani Catholic Association of Bangalore (KON-CAB) participated in the “Konkani Nirantari” in Mangalore as a part of the attempt to earn a place in the Guiness Book of World Records. They were one of the 44 groups comprising about 1,700 singers who sang 645 songs for 40 hours. The KON-CAB team sang 15 songs.
‘Zero to Billion’ meet tomorrow
Bangalore, dhns: The Bangalore-based Akshaya Patra Foundation — which runs an extensive meal programme in government schools — will host a national conclave titled ‘Zero to Billion’ on February 1 at Chancery Pavilion, Residency Road. Eminent CEOs, corporate leaders, artists, media professionals and politicians will congregate to celebrate the foundation’s success in reaching out to over 8,30,000 children since its inception in 2000.
The foundation will deliberate a solution to address concerns over widespread hunger and malnutrition that affect around 57 million children in India.
According to Madhu Pandit Das, Chairman, The Akshaya Patra Foundation, the event proposes to bring leaders together towards eradicating hunger from India. Chanchalapathi Das, Vice Chairman of the Foundation, said the scheme is being used as a case study for Harvard Business School as a model of excellence.
