State JD(S) Youth Wing Working President Chandrashekar on Wednesday alleged that former minister R Ashok of the BJP has illegally distributed government land worth crores in Bangalore south taluk to hundreds of his party workers.

He alleged that about 800 acres of government land were illegally given away to over 600 BJP workers between 1991 and 2007, when Ashok was heading Bagarhukum committee in Uttarahalli.

Bagarhukkum committee allots lands to needy farmers. But the former minister has misused his power, he added and demanded a thorough investigation into it. When contacted, Ashok said there was nothing illegal. A Bagarhukum committee will have four members, besides the local MLA.  In order to distribute a piece of land, there should be major decision. In Uttarahalli, all four members were from JD(S) party, he added.
