Mithra Jyothi Montessori School, stands like a...
Ray of sunlight
for parents who want their children to blossom in natural surroundings.

Every child has a natural growth plan and it is the parent's responsibility to understand that and give them the right environment so that they can blossom well. So the hunt begins for the ideal school.

Pre schools usually aim to maximise children's early development so that they are ready to face the Primary school curriculum and are able to fit into the routine. Every parent wants to make sure that his or her child is ready for the first day at school. Today there are umpteen number of pre-schools that hold a lot of promise for its young entrants and vouch that they can be responsible for the all round development of the child.

Amidst many such schools Mithra Jyothi Montessori School at Kaggadasapura, C V Raman Nagar, stands as a ray of sunlight for parents who want their children to blossom in natural surroundings.

The school was started in 2004 with the aim of being a good neighbourhood school and to impart value based education to children. As Renuka the Directress puts it, "I wanted to create an environment where learning happens naturally, without force and the children learn by themselves and are confident to be a part of society. For this the Montessori system advocated by Maria Montessori is the ideal choice".

A trained lawyer, Renuka embraced pedagogy and trained herself in the Montessori system of education and started the school with the necessary infrastructure to provide an environment where children are helped to rise up to their potential and conceptual knowledge is gained naturally. The school has a well laid out garden and lawn that makes any outdoor activity for the tiny-tots enjoyable. The classrooms are spacious with enough space to accommodate the children. The equipment and material are state-of-the-art and can withstand the wear and tear of tiny hands handling them as in the Montessori system the child chooses his/her activity each day and puts it back in place. This discipline that is inculcated at that level stands them in good stead throughout life. The child here is treated like an adult and gets the freedom to be himself or herself.

The school started with only 18 students and today has an enviable strength of more than 80 students. It is registered as an educational trust and is recognised by the Government of Karnataka. It is also a member of the Indian Montessori Association. It caters to students from the age group of 2-6 years and equips them to get into main stream education.

Renuka is a confirmed follower of the Montessori method and feels that this approach to education emphasises learning through all the five senses. Here children learn at their own pace and according to their own choice of activities from hundreds of possibilities. Here learning becomes an exciting process of discovery for the child. She further clarifies that research shows that Montessori children are well prepared for later life academically, socially and emotionally.

To help parents learn more about their children and also help their child learn better, the school conducts regular workshops and seminars for parents and also for anyone interested to know more about the Montessori system of education, where eminent personalities come to address the gathering. The school has well trained staff who are also equally passionate about the Montessori system and how it will benefit the children. The admission procedure is based on whether the child can adjust to its surrounding and if the child is between 2 to 3 years.
Plans are on the anvil to expand the Montessori environment to cater to students of age group 6-12 and also 12-16 years.
