“Health care and managerial administration must be integrated to provide better health care facilities,” said Islamic Academy of Education Chairperson Yenepoya Abdulla Kunhi.
Delivering the presidential address at the inaugural programme of international symposium on Challenges in Health Care Management on Wednesday at Yenepoya Hospital Kodialbail, Mr Kunhi said that health care as such is undergoing massive change in the present day scenario with constant technological advancement, thereby increasing immense pressure on the existing hospitals.
He opined that health care and hospital management are two sides of the same coin, which need to go hand in hand for any health institute to render its best service to the society.
Later presenting a paper on “Medical Tourism: Opportunities and Challenges,” AOC International (UK) Managing Director Dr Khurshid Alam said that Medical Tourism is a booming trend and with this, the future of medical treatment is like every other product, based mainly on demand and supply, wherein increased life expectancy due to changing demographics also offer a new market for medical tourism.
Dr Alam speaking about possibilities of India becoming the favoured destination for Medical Tourism said that huge funds are being invested in this regard which boost India’s medical tourism making it a sought after destination for medical tourism in next 10 years. He, however, opined that India undoubtedly has made strides in medical field but there is still a long way to go as South Korea is all set to become the medical hub in South Asia.
“Poor infrastructure facilities in Indian cities pose the greatest challenge to India to fight other nations like Singapore and Korea,” he added.
Dr Umesh Prabhu from UK presenting a paper on globalisation of health care said that Indian health care is expected to grow at a rate of 13 per cent annually.
