Various tribal organisations staged a protest by closing down the Anechowkoor gate in protest against the opposition of the Forest Department officials to providing electricity connection to various girijana haadi in Nagarahole Reserve Forest.
The protest was led by Jilla Aadivasi Moolabhootha Hakkugala Sangha, Budakattu Krishikara Sangha, Taluk DSS (Ambedkar vaada).
The protest was withdrawn only after Deputy Commissioner K R Niranjan who arrived at the spot and assured to discuss the problem at a special meeting on January 16.
Speaking on the occasion, Taluk Panchayat member J K Muthamma and Budakattu Krishikara Sangha President J P Raju urged to provide road, drinking water and other basic facilities to the tribal haadi. They also urged to initiate action against Deputy Conservator of Forest for coming in the way of providing electricity connection to these houses.
Hundreds of tribals from Virajpet taluk including children and women took part in the protest. They closed the gate and sat on the road, which disrupted the movement of vehicles. All the vehicles bound to Mysore and Virajpet had to ply through Maldare road till 3 pm. Zilla Panchayat President Deerghakeshi Shivanna, former MLA A K Subbaiah, ZP former president J A Karumbaiah, ZP members M K Nanjappa, Lamps Society President Subru visited the spot.
